Noise

Marshall observing plane

Manchester Airport Group takes the control of noise very seriously. Although aircraft are much quieter today than they once were, noise is still the impact of most concern to people living near airports. The technological innovations to make each individual aircraft quieter are partly offset by increased demand for air travel, and therefore more landings and departures each day. Our airports must encourage ever quieter planes and manage operational procedures effectively.

The main sources of airport noise are:

  • aircraft taking off and landing
  • aircraft on the ground, including engine testing
  • construction activities
  • road traffic to and from the airport.
