Our Communities

For our airports, being a good neighbour means contributing positively to the community while reducing the negative impacts of our operations. We therefore strive to create jobs for local people, lower noise from our operations and ensure the air quality around our airports remains good, as well as investing our time and money in improving local quality of life.

Air Quality

Airport activities give rise to a range of emissions that affect local air quality. By engaging with our partners and adapting our own operations, we can minimise our airports' contributions to local pollution.

Our Successes

By investing in local communities, our airports support their passengers and employees of today and tomorrow.

  • At Manchester, we have, since 1972, provided grants to local residents to subsidise sound insulation of their homes.
  • Humberside Airport has created a unique Environment and Learning zone in the terminal building, allowing the airport to raise environmental awareness and promote its many achievements in sustainability.
  • In 2006, Manchester Airport became the lead sponsor in regenerating Parklands High School, now reopened as Manchester Enterprise Academy.
  • In 2009, Manchester, East Midlands and Bournemouth airports produced noise action plans.
