We strive to achieve the highest standards in everything we do and sustainability is a fundamental area, in which we are leading the way. This report summarises our approach to sustainability and explains how we are meeting existing demand for air travel, planning for tomorrow's needs and managing the social and environmental impacts of our activities.
Board Statement
While this is our first Group-wide sustainability report, sustainability is not new to us. We have exciting plans for the future and know that growing our business in a sustainable way is imperative.
About MAG
Manchester Airports Group, or MAG, is the largest UK-owned airport group. Our business comprises Manchester, East Midlands, Humberside and Bournemouth Airports. It is our objective to be the world's airports of choice.

We are committed to securing our long-term licence to grow by acting responsibly. This includes providing excellent service for our customers, protecting the environment, contributing to our local communities and being an employer of choice.
Planning for Sustainable Growth
Airports are a long-term business and comprehensive planning is key to ensuring our sustainable growth. All our airports have produced Master Plans that incorporate social and environmental objectives along with business development.
Operating Responsibly
Our corporate governance framework and risk management processes help us to manage our business in a way that benefits our shareholders and other stakeholders.
Our Successes
- Strategic plans to 2030 (Master Plans) are in place for all MAG airports.
- We provide leadership through several aviation industry bodies that develop responses to climate change and other sustainability challenges, including Sustainable Aviation, Flying Matters and the Air Transport Action Group (ATAG).
- We support the work of Manchester Metropolitan University, a centre of excellence in aviation research and development.
- As a leading business in aviation, we are subject to public scrutiny and aim to act as a corporate role model.
- Our airports' sustainability programmes were recognised with three Big Tick awards from Business in the Community in 2009, alongside many other local and global awards for our work.
