What is it?
The Carbon Challenge was launched in 2010. It is aimed at all companies based at Manchester Airport to work together to reduce their carbon emissions. Climate change and carbon emissions reduction are important business issues in today’s world. Those companies that join the Carbon Challenge are committing to measure, manage and reduce their carbon dioxide emissions that arise from their ‘scope 1 and 2’ activities. These activities are those within their direct control , typically gas used for heating and hot water, fuel used in their vehicles and electricity.
The Carbon Challenge brings together a range of companies from across the Manchester Airport site to work together, share knowledge and form a network of events. The programme has a number of events each year as well as the supporting information on this web site.
Manchester Airport, the Airport Company, is a partner in the Carbon Challenge as well as providing much of the support required, such as facilitating events and providing this web site.
As an active partner in the Carbon Challenge, an organisation can benefit in many ways:
- Identification of areas for improvement
- Reduced costs through reductions in energy and fuel use
- Reduce the uncertainty of future energy prices
- Increased colleague engagement
- Achieving Corporate Social Responsibility targets
- Networking opportunities and knowledge sharing with other Partners
- Access to a range of events and workshops with other Partners
- Improved public perception
- Potential to obtain national accreditation (e.g. Carbon Trust Standard)
- The potential for independent verification of your carbon footprint (by achieving the Carbon Trust Standard)
