Background: Was with Air Traffic Control for 7 years in the 1970s; posted to several locations during which undertook Air Traffic Control Officer Cadet Training, achieving a validation in Aerodrome Control at Gatwick Airport and flying training to PPL standard. Joined BAA Operations in 1977 at Gatwick as an Apron Controller and remained with BAA in Airside Operations for nearly 30 years. Between 1983 and 1985 posted to Stansted and line managed the Airfield Operations shift team. Between 1985 and 1994, posted to Heathrow in the role of Operations Duty Manager for 7 years, and later Airfield Planning roles for 2 years. Carried out Operations Duty Manager role at Gatwick between 1994 and 2000. Transferred to Stansted in 2000 to take on role of Operations Projects and Capacity Manager, remaining until October 2007 to take early retirement. Joined Airfield Operations at Manchester in November 2007 as Airfield Major Projects Planner.
Responsibilities:
Detailed planning of major airfield projects to include:
- Risk analysis
- Consultation with stake holders
- Production of documentation for CAA approval
Projects:
- Runway 2 and taxiway DZ repairs
- Runway 1 resurfacing
