Background: Flew with the Royal Air Force in a training capacity before commencing a career in Airfield Operations with BAA plc at London Heathrow. Other than a winter season spent at Aberdeen, remained at Heathrow for eight years prior to being appointed Deputy Director of Airfield Operations at London City Airport - a position occupied for five years until moving north to Manchester in April 2005.
Responsibilities: Overall responsibility for the strategic development of the airfield and policy matters including:
- ATC provision
- airfield infrastructure
- Navaids;
- capacity development
- runway safety
- general delivery of Safety Management System, compliant with UK and international standards.
Projects: A combination of capital maintenance and replacement schemes, together with longer term strategic developments. A complete overview of the airfield facility and the requirement to keep it matched to customer needs and future capacity demands.
