Collaborative Decision Making (CDM)
As part of the European Commission and EUROCONTROL’s development of the Single European Sky ATM Research programme (SESAR), Airport Collaborative Decision Making (CDM) is a concept to promote operational efficiency by improving the predictability of events, reducing delays and optimising the use of available resources.
For EUROCONTROL to manage the airspace of Europe in an efficient and environmentally positive way, flight situation awareness data must be provided on the ground as it is in the air. The CDM milestone approach allows all organisations and personnel involved in an aircraft departure to provide their input into the turnround process to achieve this.
It is expected that the Airport CDM will be introduced as a standard working method in 2013 and to that end, Manchester Airport has initiated a Steering Group to oversee it’s introduction at Manchester in the most cost efficient way.
The key objectives of CDM are to:-
- Improve predictability
- Improve on-time performance
- Reduce ground movement costs
- Optimise ground handling resources
- Optimise use of stands and gates
- Reduce apron and taxiway congestion
- Flexible predeparture planning
- Reduce ATFM slot wastage
