East Midlands - Community Relations

Sitting on the edge of three counties, we believe in being at the heart of the local community.
At East Midlands Airport, we are committed to being a good neighbour. Maintaining long-lasting positive relationships with our local community is essential; stretching through Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire and Derbyshire.
Our Community Relations programme strongly supports our local community, focusing on six key areas:
- Community engagement
- Employee engagement
- Environment
- Education
- Sports
- Arts
Details of our continued commitments and successes are published each year in our annual Community and Environment Investment Report. This specifies the airport’s contributions to our local area, involving strong partnerships with local organisations such as sporting bodies, dance companies and theatre groups to name but a few.
We also endeavour to support continued environmental commitments, through partnerships with the Wildlife Trusts and ongoing developments to our perimeter Trail. As well as supporting and encouraging our local biodiversity, working closely with our Environmental department helps us to support ‘green’ campaigns, attributing towards our aim to be carbon neutral by 2012.
At East Midlands Airport, we don’t only offer financial support to our local communities. We also express a personal touch, attending local parish council meetings, visiting supported and partnership projects and offering groups a helping hand to ensure that their venture is as successful as possible.
However, where financial help is needed, local groups fitting certain criteria are invited to submit applications to the East Midlands Airport Community Fund. The Fund, which was established in 2002, has awarded funding to over 350 projects since its launch. Although administered by airport staff, the Community Fund Management Committee runs independently and consists of local councillors and an on site business. Supplementing the Fund’s annual airport contribution of £50,000, additional funding is gained from fines, linked to aircraft which exceed permitted noise levels.

Education is a huge area that we work closely with, our Education site is also a separate resource aimed at teachers and students of all ages.
