Ground transport
Manchester Airport's company vision for ground transport is:
- To be one of the best connected and accessible airports, at the hub of a range of integrated transport networks with high quality, safe and affordable facilities for our customers.
- To contribute to the sustainable growth of the regions and cities we serve by providing improved connectivity to other parts of the UK, Europe and the world.
- To be a beacon of best practice, delivering innovative transport solutions and achieving challenging targets for a shift to modes with less environmental impact.
Manchester Airport aims to be carbon neutral by 2015. CO2 emissions are generated around energy use, airport vehicles, staff journeys, passenger journeys, aircraft on the ground and other sources.
The airport can directly control the energy it uses in its buildings (the offices on site and the terminal buildings), and it can control the emissions from vehicles it uses on site by buying more fuel efficient vehicles. The airport can only influence other areas such as how staff travel to work, how passengers travel to the airport, and how service partners use energy and vehicles. By far the largest cause of CO2 emissions is passenger journeys generating more than 225,000 tonnes of CO2 each year. The airport is committed to encouraging passengers and staff to travel to the airport by more environmentally friendly means.
